There are reports that four well known members of the Southern Cameroons National Council SCNC , have been declared wanted in the city of Kumba, South West region, Cameroon. They are wanted for alleged crimes relating to terrorism.
Those wanted are Fon Gilbert , Tchamon Encho, Encho Ngemou Mathias Tagi Emmanuel Encho and many other SCNC members and sympathisers.
These suspects are currently on the run after they were hinted of an imminent arrest by security operatives attached to the Kumba gendarmerie.
The prime suspect Fon Gilbert , has been an SCNC member since 2008 and has frequently carried out activities of the SCNC in Kumba. In early 2016, he spearheaded a public demonstration, protesting the continual arrest and detention of SCNC members by the Biya regime, some of which have spent years in detention without trial. At the same period , Fon Gilbert and his cohorts planned to hoist SCNC flags in strategic locations in Kumba town.
Speaking on condition of anonymity , a member of SCNC said a security personnel who understands that protesting for a legitimate cause is a democratic right and who has seen nothing wrong with the activities of SCNC , tipped them about their impending arrests and also told them that arrest warrants have been issued to specifically make sure that they arrest Fon Gilbert. There are reports that some top government officials will stop at nothing to see him arrested and persecuted for what they termed an act of terrorism.

The suspects have since escaped to unknown destinations and all efforts to reach them has proven futile.Their family members now live in fear, they fear the very unpredictable.
It should be noted that SCNC is a movement that seeks the sovereignty of Southern Cameroons from La Republique du Cameroun. And over the years, many SCNC activists have suffered undue arrest, torture and imprisonment, for a fight against total dominance.
With the recent happenings in Southern Cameroons, it’s becoming extremely dangerous to be an SCNC member living in those regions.Once arrested , you face lengthy jail time without any form of trial as in the case of Oben Maxwell, an SCNC bigwig who has been in detention for over 33 months, whereas the law stipulates that such custody should not exceed 6 months. A big slap to the rule of law and due process.
How long will this continue to happen? That is a question that only members of the Biya regime can answer.
